Once you invest in software you should protect that investment by keeping the program up to date. Today, you can also update your hardware products online.  

If you buy a printer, and install the printer software, you will get online updates to provide patches and fixes to known problems in the software and security features to protect your computer and your printer function.  

Game software, money management software, and office function software can also be updated via online program updates. Most of these programs are set for automatic updates so there is nothing you have to do to get the program updates delivered to your machine. 

Security and windows system updates will arrive on your computer automatically. If you buy a software program without automatic updates you should register for email messages to let you know when updates are available.

Program updates for games and entertainment may include updates to accommodate the latest operating system. If you buy a new computer and you want to use your old program on the new machine with the new operating system, you should look online at the game web site and search for updated drivers and files to comply with the new operating system.  

If the favorite game or program does not comply with the new operating system, contact the program manufacturer. If you purchased the program license you may be eligible for a discount on the new version of the program that runs on the new operating system.  

You should not give up on a favorite game or program until you have explored the program update possibilities. Most companies offer a reasonable way to keep your programs and software up to date and it would be a shame to lose the original investment. Wherever possible, register for automatic windows updates and security updates to protect every program on your computer and take advantage of all software and hardware upgrades. It is the simplest, least expensive way to protect your investment in hardware and programs and keep your computer and programs running well for years to come.
